Let it sit and idle for a few minutes (like 5- 10 min)when warm and check for smoke coming out the exhaust. Check for smoke when accelerating hard as well.
And try this test for the turbo seals (as recommended by trevor (TA22_GT to me many moons ago) -
"It sounds like the rear seal in the turbo is gone , An easy way to confirm this is to start the motor and block off the crank ventalation outlets in the cam cover as to build up a bit of preasure in the crankcase , inturn this will also create preasure in the turbo center housing and if the seal is gone this will force oil past the seal into the exhaust housing causing your exhaust to blow smoke . ( do this test at operating temp )"
Also a blocked/buggered PCV valve on the intake side can cause the weird smoking on idle some 1jz's exhibit.
1jz turbos have been known to fail at 100 - 150,000 kms, so if the milage is getting high than these tests would be a good idea.
And as I always say, check the rubber on the pedals and the wear and tear inside to see if it matches the mileage. Speedo's are wound back on import cars as well sometimes.....
