why gasless? you are aware they are shit? unless you need to have bad welds?
A poor tradesman blames his tools. This guy's doing a fantastic impersonation of a wanker, ignore him. If you don't believe me, look at the car in his avatar and then consider how valid his opinion is
There are definitely better options out there, but gasless MIG can be quite effective - if it wasn't they wouldn't be built and supplies wouldn't be available for them. I have a MIG that I use gasless and even as a beginner I had no problems doing quality welds. What is shit is a cheap gasless MIG.
I have a reasonable quality MIG that is useable with/without gas and have no problems. However, I had a cheap gasless one I borrowed from a friend and it was very hard to weld with (I'm sure a pro could do it but I spent ages without luck). My welder has adjustable wire feed and power settings so once you set it up correctly you will be unstoppable.
Unsure if this is standard for all welders, but you change the wire and also on mine you have to swap the +ve and -ve cables for some reason. I stronly suggest you read your manual before you electrocute yourself or spend hours trying to figure out why you can't get a bead going
I use a gasless CIG wire, it's pretty cheap and any welding shop worth their salt (eg BOC) will have this on shelf in ½kg and 5kg rolls. In fact I think the last roll I got was from Bunnings, so it's not that uncommon. Can't remember the name but I remember thinking it's a bloody funny name...
