An engine needs two thing to start: fuel and spark. Spark is easy enough to check, and with fuel injection it's easy to tell if the injectors are working because you can hear them clicking as the engine cranks over. A screwdriver to the ear helps if you can't hear them over the starter.
The other thing to check is the fuel pressure, which should be a constant 30-35psi at the fuel rail. Provided you have correct fuel pressure and the injectors are clicking, the engine will be getting fuel!
