Changing the timing chains, tensioners and all the other things are quite annoying, but i spent 3 months driving around in my celica without a timing guide. And let me tell u, there wasnt a time where no-one was looking at me. The rattling noise was so annoying, so i decided to buy the kit for it. The only thing i can tell you is that do everything what u want the first time. Its a pain in the arse to find out that something has been on the wrong way or something hasnt been put in.
Also make sure oyu dont drop anything down the front of the engine, because it leads to the SUmP, and thats a messy job too.
If you dont do it right, you'll have to continuously take the head off and off time after time. I did it more than 10 times, im being serios. IT was FRIGIN so annoying. Also make sure you put all tensioners in too. If not, there will be too much tension on one side, and not enough on the other. This will result in the breaking of the timing arm, as i realized after. Also make sure you get the right KIT TOO.. THey gave me the wrong one. One for the 18r, or something so similar, but missing stuff. THats why i spent 3 months trying to figureout why it wasnt working and timing arms kept breaking. I have a lot of experience with the timing side of the 18r-c engine. Need any help or any questions answered, just write something and il get back to ya. GOOD luck.. Also i have some timing chains and timing tensioners too ( ALL BRAND NEW), so if you live close by or wanta buy at very reasonable price.. Just a thought
