all of these sensors have 1 wire that goes back to ECU with the same signal, which basically switches at stoich.
1 wire grounds the sensor thru the body of the sensors and thru the exhaust.
2 wires means there is a seperate ground wire to eliminate dodgy earth thru exhaust.
3 wire is a 1 wire, but there are two extra wires for the heater.
4 wire is a 2 wire, but with two extra wires for the heater.
you can use any of them, but may need to add power and ground wires for heater or sensor.
if sensor is too far away from head, a heated version will give better signal..
that said, the O2 feedback is used only for cruising (for closed loop mixture control)
4 wire are not that rare i still have 1 or 2 left
more and more cars are using them because they have faster heat up time, and do not cool too much during idle.. and are becoming more popular for emissions purposes.
there are also 5 wire (and maybe 4 wire) wide band sensors, and these are totally different animals..
the bosch LSM-11? "wide band, as suggested by MoTec is not a wide band at all, but a heated, more highly calibrated narrow band sensor... a 'wide range narrow band' if you will...
but as Norbie says, a 1 wire is a 1 wire...
