Repco rang this morning to say that my poor corolla's head has three spots of corrosion and would cost $200ish to weld, skim and regrind affected valves. However, 4 intake and 6 exhaust valves aren't sealing particularly well, so to regrind those, resetting tappets etc and basically reco'ing the whole deal, I'll be up for $510. We're going to own the car for a while - so reco'ing is deemed "a good thing" - but I've gotta sus out some options first..

a) weld, skim, get back on road asap, think about selling it soon - $200
b) reco - $510
c) $x, buy already reco'd head from somewhere (where?)
d) $x buy non-reco'd but good cond 2nd hand head from somewhere (where?)

In addition, what opinions do people have about using ACL top end gaskets vs toyota top end gaskets?

cheers!
