Racks are piss-easy to replace (done it too many times now). The only hard part is getting the ball joints out, but with the help of a BFH and lots of bishing they drop out eventually. Then you just remove the 4 bolts attaching it to the crossmember (one of them you have to access from under the car), undo the bolt on the steering column, and the whole thing drops out. Installation is the reverse of the removal.
