Ok folks, I'm throwing up ideas here. Was offered a mk1 cortina at a good price, so it might be purchased some time soon. I thought that if I got it at the right price, I'd have some bling bling cash money left over, so maybe an engine swap might be in order? Now, the car already has a 2l pinto in it (500cc's up on the orriginal engine, with an overhead camshaft to boot) but I'm afraid that just won't cut it, so I thought to myself "what would fit under that tinly little bonnet" for those of you wondering just how tiny, an example is here:

I thought that a cosworth engine would be nice, but hella expensive, nissan? no thank you, toyota? that would be nice!
Questions: I don't really want to go under 2l, but 3sgte's are expensive, should I go 4agze? or something else? what gearboxes are used with these engines (they are fwd arn't they?)? costs? availability? workability? etc.
cheers
