A manufacturers output figures are based on two different standards for testing, one is slightly more conservative than the other, however both are a flywheel hp figure.
Both figures are attained with no ancilliaries attached to engine, ie no alternator, aircon, or fans etc.
the engine is fed perfect temperature filtered air from an outside source, coolant is supplied from an infinate reserviour that never heat soaks. they are tested useing hand crafted fuel in an air conditioned room !!!!
It is not a real life figure, all the detrimental variables are removed.
That is why RW dyno figures are not what people expect, and I beleive this is also responsible for the 30% drivetrain losses myth.
rw figures are down 30% from the manufacturers claim, not the real figure.
DOnt use %30 loss as a figure to calculate flywheel hp !
There was also an article in yesterdays telegraph about hyundai overstaing its power figures.
