From what I've gathered, the 20R/22R hybrid engine is only popular in the US where they have limited access to good stuff like the 18R-G and 1G-GTE. The 21R was never available there which is probably why you've never heard of a 21R/22R combo. If you think the 21R head will work better than the 20R, go for it and let us know how it works out!
