I'm not too sure about that mate, straight '23/8 series celica bumpers are bloody hard to find. Have a look at the next couple of celicas you see, and have a real close look at the bumper. Chances are, it will be slightly pushed in at the very middle, where it should come to a sorta 'point'. Or the ends of the bumper won't line up with the corner parking light.
Nearly every celica I've seen has been like this, including most of the celicas in toymods.
If I was still looking for a bumper, I would definately give your idea a try, but I'm not, so hopefully someone else will and let us know what happens.
It would be good if they were still manufactured, but I do doubt it.
