do the 6" idea but I would continue running the 6*9s. The reason people will say not to run 6*9's and a sub is that it brings the sound stage back because the 6*9's make a lot of midbass. Unless you are intending to go in sound quality competitions keep the 6*9's.
and if possible get some 2 ways splits for the front and mount the tweeter about 30cm higher than the woofer.
