how can you get cancellation with 6*9's and a sub? and is it audible to the human ear?

I would rather a cheapish 6" split than the best 4" up front, but that is just my opinion.

If you play a 40hz tone (as an example) the sub and 6*9's will play it at the same time, they are not facing in the same direction, and even though bass is non-directional the wave's can cancel each other out. Try think if a peak and trough of a wave hit each other at the same time, they'll cancel each other out. It can be audible, you notice some frequencies are softer than others etc. Not realy noticable, in a simple system, probably wont notice that much, especially if you are not looking for it. And since teh music is always changing frequencies, it is hard to pick.

Yes, I agree 100% that 6 or 6.5 inch splits would be better up front. I guess I try understand that not everyone wants to cut up doors\kicks to accomodate sound, and they have to fit what they have where they can. In a perfect world, all speakers would be up the front
