On later model cars, there is no speedo cable.
Instead, an electrical signal is generated off the sensor, then sent to the ECU for some reasons, like speed cut (speed =180km/h), idle (speed = 0), also a signal is sent to the instrument cluster to drive the speedo.

Most cars have this sensor on the gearbox where the speedo cable used to be, mine is driven off the front wheels ABS sensors.
