TEMS (Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension) Little motors on top of shocks, to adjust bump and rebound. Most shocks on these imports are old and stuffed, which causes the TEMS motor to burn out. If the TEMS is stuffed, just replace the shocks with good quality aftermarket gear, or do a coil over if you are so inclined. Either way you can toss the dead TEMS away.
