for whats its worth i had a w58 close ratio box behind a 450+hp chevy - it was beautifully smooth shifting at w.o.t until i tried traction goo at the drags.
the cost for the close ratio 1st and 2nd set was $950 plus - that was 9 years ago and its still busted in the shed.
and im still looking for another $450 close ratio box!
the trick to the w58 was to get new syncros made to handle the power shifts and NEVER USE TRACTION GOO at the drags.
to this day the w58 is the best allround 5 spd i've used, and that includes new bmw and mercs! - go the toyo!!
