Solution: rebuild box, or even better, get a late-model W58 with double-row synchros on 2nd and 3rd. Quick-shifting goodness! its IS a late model box. reasonably low km's too. and also, yeah, hapens at high RPM but ONLY when cornering... NEVER when shifting hard along a straight. and dave: yeah, its the box that flipped eleventy billion times, but its not noisy. that was me having the tailshaft centre bearing installed upside down [Report message to a moderator]
