Ahh don't give up on it so easily... It gets WAY better as you play it more. The first levels feel more like levels made to get the newbies into the game.
I've been running it 1024x768 ultra quality recently... just to see how it played. Compared to high quality it's a bit slower, but doesnt look that much better. I'll stick to high quality until I can afford a Geforce FX 6800GT 
Currently running a 2500+ Barton @ 3200+, 1gig ram, way too much hdd space (wish i could say FREE space!), Geforce FX 5900...
I like the game, it's great after midnight with the lights off, headphones on and volume up loud!
