Bearing sizes pfff. The difference would be marginal if at all.
It is all about a helically cut gearboxes tendancy to self destruct. To reduce noise, designers reduced strength.
The Helix of the gears turn a pure rotational movement into a longitudinal thrust. i.e. forcing the gearbox apart.
This is why a 1:1 4th gear is the strongest and quietest gear. It is pure rotation. The Input shaft is engaged to the output shaft.
BTW:AE86 Levin Melbourne. Is this the 3sgte AE86??? If so a 3sgte should be pulling like a train at 5000 RPM in second??
If it is running a stock computer check that the knock sensor is rigged up. Most factory ECU's retard ign timing badly if the knock sensor is not hooked up.
