Well I had an additive recommended to me by someone whome I trust, so I thought I'd give it a go.

Was this someone a chemical engineer who knows the exact composition of the gearbox oil you're using?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, additives are a crock. Usually they're little more than a thickening agent, and that's what gives you better shift quality in a worn gearbox.
