i got the same problem that i just fixed (sorta)

i discovered the same thing a couple weeks ago... wasn't sure what it was, so before i pulled it apart, i went to the wreckers and pulled another apart and grabbed the rocker cover and cactus guides just incase i needed any of it...

i replaced the spark plugs as a thing i always do (since i just bought this car) and after taking off the rocker cover you can see the cactus rings... they weren't sitting on properly, but i don't know if it moved when i took the rocker cover off...

anyhow, when i compared the rings from my new ta22 to the one i grabbed from the wreckers, i discovered that the ones on my new ta22 was skinnier on the inner rim compared to the other one's. i figure someone tried to replace this before and used the wrong ones, so i used the fatter rimmed ones just incase... i still can't get my car going due to other problems, but i think i fixed the problem you have... only prob now is that when replacing the rocker cover i wish i had a tension wrench, as when i start the car oily smoke comes from out of it...

also, careful when replacing the rocker cover, make sure the cactus rings don't move.

everything should be alright.
