They are completely different. A detroit (or air or spring locker) allows for free wheeling (IE open) when it is disengaged, but when it is engaged it will turn both tyres at the same speed and nothing (aside from backing off) will let it free wheel. A mini spool locks the axles together making them turn at the same pace all the time (like welding) and a full spool completely replaces the hemisphere and its associated side gears etc. [Report message to a moderator]
