Our KE26 has a Davies Craig thermofan in it that I picked up at Supercheap. I haven't measured it, but it's no more than 3 or 4cm deep. It is intended to be mounted in front of the radiator though. Mounting bits weren't difficult; just bought a big strip of 25x3mm steel from a scrap yard ($2 or so), drilled holes in it, and cut it up with a hacksaw. It all seems to work well.
Total cost was easily under $100 including the separate thermoswitch unit, fuse, and wiring, don't remember the final figure though.
