I thought oil temp (or water, or whatever temp) gauges were all electric? If the oil comes up to the gauge, then it would be sensed by the exact same sort of sensor that could be mounted remotely.
Hey, & having the oil come to the gauge wouldn't work unless there was a return line & it was circulating anyway, so there you go, they're all electric.
Most oil temp gauges I've seen (which isn't many) have a sensor that screws in & replaces the sump plug.
