there are many mechanical guages i find them better, oil pressure guage uses a pipe which the preassure flows through to the guage, engine temp "water" guage has a capilary which is full of some sort of gas which expands depending on heat and moves the needle in the guage sure oil temp guage would use the same effect,
i took the water temp guage and stuck the end in boiling water and it went instantly to 100'C so i can say that they are acurate.
