i emptied mine every 2-3 weeks but monthly should be fine.i kept the drainings to check what they were exactly and found it collected less than 100ml in over 6 months total on a tired old 2T-c.
and yes comnnect it back to your inlet it makes the thing work better and keeps your engine bay cleaner
