GSF1200 wrote on Sat, 04 September 2004 10:06 | I have MX83 Grande with 97000 ks bought the car from an 80-year-old (one owner) in immaculate condition. I replaced the exhaust with a 2.5in system hi flow cat and two straight thru mufflers a bit loud when at full throttle but acceptable, K&N air filter then tweaked the air flow meter a little to add a bit more fuel. The mods did make a big difference more than I expected the torque increase was a big supirise fuel use about 60/65 ltrs 490/530 ks. Then 6000 ks later Head Gasket gone also valve stem seals hardened. (Smoke puff at startup) Now repaired, engine looked great inside no wear visible cams etc. now Im sure I can hear a bearing noise big end/main this can not be possible the bottom ends are bullet proof (allegedly) or has this been known before at such low Ks or am I hearing things ?? If someone has put a 1JZGTE into one of these could you please give me some advise or a link maybe, Cheers

The 7ms had a poor lubrication system in the bottom end (thanks norbie) and as soon as they start getting used low on oil, or shit oil is used..or just as they get old, The big ends have a habit of letting go and grabbing the crank. When i rebuilt my 7m i pulled out the block to discover one of the big ends was almost gone. The fellow before me treated the car like shit, and it was quite evident. Itd also been cooked so many times, the head was rooted, there was a scratch in no 6 bore where itd almost seized, the block was warped and the big end was almost gone.
Other than that they are a great motor. Mine put out 115RWKW with an auto yesterday..i am stoked with the only mod being a 2.5" exhaust...it screams on the dyno! Not bad for an 86 model motor!
