Yes you modify your existing tailshaft (well the front section anyway), but typically a driveshaft shop will just weld your existing flange and yoke to a new tube of the correct length.

Of course the easiest way would be to find a factory tailshaft from a JZA70 Supra, but they're probably not easy to find!

The strength of the tailshaft is very relevant to the power output of your engine, since the tailshaft transmits the power from the engine to the wheels! However I imagine all Mk3 tailshafts are the same spec (including turbo models) so it should be plenty strong.
