That nylon strap is really only there to secure the lid on, you're supposed to have the battery box properly fastened down & then a battery clamp holding the battery down inside the box.
I've had my box bolted down but no battery clamp for quite a while & never had any greif (the wsid scrutineer was kind enough to not make me open up the box to show him the battery clamp ), but it's something I'd like to do before my car's back on the road.
There's no way that strap will keep the battery in if your car rolls, which is when you could really do without some splashing battery acid & a spark show spectacular.
