Possible, but only simple things if anything.
I remember reading a write up on the A43DE box (which I presume you have), and it said it takes in inputs from engine temp, revs, brakes, speed etc etc.
How true this was, I don't know.
Have a look under the dash, see if any wires go between the ecu.

Possibly some inputs, like the ones I mentioned above.
But I dont think the A43DE will go into limphome mode like the newer boxes do, it may just have interupt the shift points.
Try it, only one way to find out.
