They are 2 separate ecu's located in the kick panel on passenger side.
the auto box does need the ecu to run and change i beleive. but they could be sourced from an aftermarket ecu as they are only simple things as stated.
you will be easily able to wire it up to work with new ecu id say.
good luck with conversion.. i love my z10 soarers(own 2 of them, one with 1jz and 1g geu, same as yours)
make sure u post pics and info when its done
