Thread of the year? confused Anyway, for starters - definately not getting a turbo, Id like to think im not that silly If you want silly, look at my parents. When I came to them asking to borrow 15 grand until I get my own funds withdrawn at the end of this year, they wouldnt let me. First off they want me to own an automatic, then they want me to have a new car (some shit like a dihatsu and that kind of thing), then they wanted me to wait until I got my P's and THEN started driving lessons.... A year ago my mother was saying she was going to give me her car when I got my licence. HER CAR? NO THANKS. Ford capri roadster, ferrari body kit, turbo - and a complete wreck. I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole. The number of problems with her car is unbelievable. Yet she has a problem with me wanting a toyota supra - thats not turbo.. Plus whats the damn point of owning an auto... WHAT experience do I gain from that exactly?? Considering Im going for manuals and learnt to drive in mums crappy car.. Anyway. What you guys are saying is true I suppose, I understand and even agree with it... youth + inexperience + power theory. Then again, I dont plan on doing stupid shit with it, Im not going to be pushing it, and when I do push it - it will be one step at a time. Thats the only way to gain experience and to learn, really. Taking it a step at a time. I may not have huge amounts of experience, but I have some atleast with mums car, and well.... yeeeaahhh lets not go there Thing is I dont want a complete bomb and car I dont even LIKE for my first car. True, if I crash the supra, Im going to be doubly upset.. but atleast itll be a car Ill be proud to drive, that Ill WANT to fix and play with, that I want to take care of, etcetera. Plus its pretty damn reliable - toyota's are tough cars, and really I just worry about the rust and head gaskets, possibly the brake pads. The W58 gearbox is bullet proof, and the engine's been reconditioned... The only thing that IS the killer is the insurance, but I think I might just drop down to the 3 party insurance with NRMA, not sure though, if I go for full comprehensive NOW, I start earlier, and the price will go down with time. As for the common misconceptions against FEMALES driving cars - hey, what can you expect? A car, typically, is a man's domain, and after seeing shows like "The Simple Life" .... well, Im female - even I wouldnt want a female driving my own car.. Re the head gasket problem - I didnt know it was SO common? The one Im looking at atm has just had the head gasket replaced - surely I wouldnt really need to look at getting it fixed asap? I want to look at getting it done anyway just to be on the safe side.. but how much is that going to cost me... metal head gasket plus machining of head and block...? And maybe this will sound stupid - but regarding cash? "Meh". I have 130 grand to play with, and I LOVE Supras. For this car? I will do anything [Report message to a moderator]
