I think I can do most of this off the top of my head 
1+2 ... well, you could leave them unattached, but then you need to block up where the pipes connect into the rest of the cooling system. And don't assume that you only need the feature in a cold climate - intakes can freeze in aus ... at least I've had carbys ice up before It's a bit hard to describe the setup, but it feeds from the block behind the cam belt cover, into the fitting in pic 1, out the one in pic 2, and back in midway along the plenum, and I assume back into the water jacket somewhere from there. I could probably get you some pics, but my digicam is on holidays until Tuesday.
3,4+5 - yeah, you almost got it right. Just connect the two via your heater core and a control valve and you're in business. Assuming you want to keep warm and demist your windscreen come winter 
6+7 - IIRC it goes to the charcoal cannister.
8 - looks like the control connector for the hydraulic pump for the radiator cooling fan.
