Hmm, sounds like its over fueling? BTW mx62 cressida's are pre 1986 so we didn't get them with O2 sensors over here, so that can't be the problem.

It maybe that the cold start injector is stuck open/leaking? (tho I would think that this would cause the engine to stall) It's quite an easy check tho. The cold start injector is only held in by two screws/bolts (its in the middle of the top of the inlet manifold, stands out like dogs balls Smile), remove the screws, plug the manifold so as not to cause a giant vacuum leak, and start/crank the car, if the cold start injector dribbles all the time, or doesn't turn off I'd suggest its leaking and would be best to replace it! The cold start injector should only operate during cranking when the coolant temp is under 35deg C to my knowledge, and should spray a nice fine mist if working well!

Another option is the sensor that the ECU uses for temperature enrichment...I think when I was playing with mine I used this curve as my guide, if your not sure if its working unplug it (the car will run very, very poorly, and prbly not idle even!).

I don't think that its the Air Bypass Valve (ABV) due to the way that it idles up/auto chokes from the way to describe it, but again its easy to check.

Hmm besides that, maybe a sticky injector (long screwdriver to the ear test?), I'm out of options pretty well!

Cheers
William
