I have just rebuilt my 1G and it had a spun bearing. 9 times out of 10, if it has spun a bearing, the journal will be damaged and will have to be ground undersize, which will set you back the cost of machine work, crack testing, gasket set, bearings, balancing if you wish and so forth. Honestly, don't expect change from a grand, and thats not being stupid, it WILL cost that much.
My advise would be 1 of 2 things, get a complete engine, for say 500, or some places will sell just the bottom ends, for like 200. I would go that route.
Or, if you rwalyy like the idea of keeping yours, get a crank and rods from someone, should cost you 50 bucks or so, and ask if you can have the old bearings, even ask a few people for all there old bearings, and take the whole lot down to Mendhams engineering, get them to polish the new crank, resize the rods, and sort through all the bearings and pick the good ones, thats what i had to do, and they did my engine, there service was absolutely outstanding.
You can use 3sgte bearings in the main journals, but not the rods.
Cheers.................6BOOST
