youch... that must of been the clunk we heard?
if you're removing one valve, then pull the lot off and inspect them all. including valve guides and seats. VRS kit comes with new seals also so install them all while it's apart.
as you're going turbo, you really need the seats checked - see them pics of phil's head for badly damaged valve seats...
as to why they might have bent - incorrect cam timing? got stuck in the guide so the piston came up and give it a nudge? wrong pistons or cams?
He went stainless valves i think - check his thread for info about the valves... i run standard valves in my 18R so i guess the factory items (or stock replacements) are workable for turbo. If you were building a track car, then somethingmore exostic, or getting the exposed face and stem ceramic coated might help.
i dunno why the oil would leak out of the carbo - being tipped upside down will do that - otherwise, the oil reservoir has a leak or is being pressurised. With stuck intake valves you will get massive back pressure back thru the carbis as the piston comes up and puches a lot of air back out the intake valve
thrust washer takes up lateral play (e.g. in crankshaft, it stops/controls motion forward/backwards) it wears instead of the thing moving back/forwards and usually has oil channels for suitable lubrication. for things like camshafts, it might be a plain washer.
also... you might find budget auto parts at oxley useful - their staff know reasonable amount about toyotas.
cheers,
charles.
