As long as the engines are both the same generation, the basic block is the same. All of the external components can bolt onto each block so it should be possible to convert the GT4 engine to use ing the MR2.
If the engine he bought is from a ST165 then I don't think the manifolds etc will bolt up and you wouldn't want to use the engine anyway as it is a far inferior example.
