Hi Rozz
Your best option is to DIY, and I'm sure there are people on the forums that will give you a hand if you get stuck. Any engine conversion is an expensive and long process, and will cost you about three times as much as you originally envisage - no matter how diligent you are or how many engine conversions you have done before.
My current conversion is a 1JZGTE into a '76 Mark II. I am a DIY guy, but there are always things you need done by other people (eg. some people don't like working on suspension, or don't have the tools for certain jobs) that hold you up. In my case I have been held up for almost 3½ months so far, and the workshop in question still hasn't turned a spanner on the car. This is for a variety of reasons, and not really anyone's fault, but this is all time that the car ends up off the road. Obviously people don't normally get held up to THIS extent, but it pays to hilight extra difficulties (and associated expenses) that may pop up.
Expect to pay around $10,000 to pay someone to do the conversion. You can probably save about $4,000 by DIY.
