This law has been in NZ for over a year now and of all the people complaining about losing there cars I have seen 1 possibly genuine case of the police oversteping the line (once you wade through all the normal bullshit). Really it is no different to any other law, if the cops want to get you they will but it rarely happens without you doing something wrong or pulling out a bad attitude when being picked up on something minor. Look at it this way, a cop could ticket you for X many k's over the limit without any proof and it is very hard to argue with. This would be much easier than taking your car as you are more likely to spend the time and money to fight then. If you were the cop what option would you take? Note, the number of cops who would falsely ticket you is pretty low, you just hear a lot about them or people don't give all the facts. Callum [Report message to a moderator]
