Howdy,
My car was making a throbbing/ticking noise and the needle was wavering around 50km/h. This was annoying but in my too hard basket. When the needle started to waver between 100 and 140 on the highway with cruise set at 100, i got angry with it. i took out my cluster and carefully sprayed the speedo gears and cogs with silicone spray (a dry lube, not glue) and also managed to get alot of it nown the neck of my speedo cable. take care not to spray the speedo clutch (the discy bit in the back of the speedo).
My speedo is silent and works as new and has done so for 10000kms.
It is worth doing it sits so still now :>
