Hi,
parsi wrote on Sat, 25 September 2004 20:00 | river, as much as i would love to maintain the celica as auto and 2t for posterity i do not think i will last. maybe my 2t is not particularly well tuned (how do i know?) but it seems to really struggle some of the time. With regards to your head deck, did u get yours professionally installed, if so how much did it cost?

Being an old bloke, I'm not as flexible as I once was and I got the unit installed professionally. I couldn't be bothered crawling around and trying to get it all out, so I was lazy and paid some mob who specialise in that sort of thing. So, they took out the old radio and the under-dash equ-amp unit and put in a nice JVC deck (where the old equ-amp) once was. The old system was totally shot (AM only and cassette broken) but it was 24 years old. Front and rear speakers were just tattered bits of cardboard and the power antenna was broken. All up cost was $700 to get the old shit ripped out, new deck installed and 4 Alpine speakers and new power antenna. Lovely stuff! I can now have FM and for the first time in the car's 31 years it now has a CD!
The deck has 50Wx4 amp in it and for me that's plenty loud enough, especially in a small car - besides, being a liftback there is little place to hide a stacker or "fully sik" amp, without sacrificing a glove box or some other space.
I'm currently making a radio blank panel, whcih I may add, is coming along quite nicely.
Even though it's an auto, your TA22 is a light car and the 2T should still move it along okay. However, it's wise (if possible) to store the auto-box and 2T engine somewhere so in years to come, when there is nigh any original TA22's around (ie someone who would pay dearly to have your car in its original form) you can say "hey, I've got the original engine and box" and that can only increase it's re-sale.
