for tig..
if ur gonna clean it with some steel wool or a wire brush make sure it is stainless steel.. mild steel brushes deposit bad things into the aluminium and it makes it real shit to weld..
and once again like people have said make sure the 2 sides of what ur welding are joined together real well.. you sont wana be filling up holes..without lots of welding under ur belt..filling a hole in ally usally turns into a bigger hole with alot of shit around it..

also welding round tube can be dificult cus u gotta constantly change the angle of the gun.. so try and do it in short bursts.

getting tig welding done by someone else can be real expensive. alot of places charge $70+/hour.
