O rings are best fitted to the block NOT the head.

Receiver Grooves have been the topic of come discussion around here lately, It is NOT hard to alling them, any decent engine builder should know what to do there. The reason for them is to stop the Head gasket from "pushing out".

Receiver grooves help when you cannot get enough clamping force in an area of a head, be it due to flex in the head or not being able to get enough clamping force from the head bolts ( This is where Head studs CAN help) The ridge created by te O ring and the Groove helps prevent sideways movement of the copper. You gotta remember that an O ring is a small Guage wire and cuts into the copper reasonably easy.

Hope that helps !
