Pretty sure yours is the rear main engine seal, not the front GB seal (engine oil VS gearbox oil). Pretty hard for oil to come out the rear seal and get onto the clutch!
I had my front seal leak on my gearbox, washed everything with brake cleaner/petrol, but it still slips (and is grabby/shuddery when cold)!
Hmm the boiling in water seems interesting!
