overheating might make it a turd to start...
but running poorly and stalling would probably be:
-running on 3cyl (if a lead dropped off)
-electrical problems (intermitent cut outs)
-crap tuning
the fact that the lead fell off suggests that the ignition system (leads, plugs, rotor, coil) is old, crappy and due for replacement.
otherwise it's just a karma thing for going out and racing bogans in valiants.
