wow thanks. Still didn't tell me what the three wires are but the daignostic stuff is really great. Also one thing I just noticed, on the second page of the 1g-gte wiring diagram there is a connection (near the top) that says 'ECT' and idea that that one is?

Must have got in while I was typing oldcorollas. There are three coming out of the back and the big fat one on top (fourth wire) is the charing wire. So out of the other two I would have a charge light and possibly a coltage sense wire. Any idea what the third could be? Also the the black and yellow ones are still quite thick, 4mm ish, the white one is about 6mm (charging wire of course is bigger than that again).
