pretty sure they say kerrosene, petrol is fine to wash them out with, i find wax & grease remover to be the best as it gets rid of any trace of old oil but don't use acrylic thinners makes the filters go twice the size even though they go back to normal size after a while i'm sure its not doing any good to the filter, also when you wash the filters let them dry first before you put the oil on otherwise it wont stick to the filter.
and don't tip whatever you used to wash them out until after you finish oiling the filter as that filter fix oil is the most sticky oil in the universe and you will need to wash it off your hands afterwards so i just dunk my hands in the tub i used to clean the filters.
