Being a bypass setup you would have to run for a fair amount of time with the oil pressure above the relief valve pressure for it to heat the cooler.
Easiest thing to do would be drop the feed line off and see if the oil in it is warm or not.
Also depends on engine condition, you may not have enough oil pressure to open it.
