I have to agree with Remedy on this one to a degree.

Insurance companies are fucks alright and in part are to blame for the loss of events etc due to rising premiums - another story though.

They prey on people's fears and to be honest if you do your own risk analysis you could be better off just leaving those premiums that would be paid to an insurance company (sunk cost) in a bank account or some stock that you only draw on if you crash your car etc.

That way the money is still yours and only get's used in the worst case. For example let's say insurance company x wants 1500 dollars a year to insure some car for a value of 4000. You will pay for the car in just over 2.5 years worth of insuarnce fees. That's dead money for the fear that the worst case scenario (crashing your car or theft etc) happens.

Bottom line is I'm all about self-insurance for my own stuff but as I can't say that I won't hit a Porsche etc (not that I plan too) then 3rd party property is as far as it goes.
