My experience has beenthat engines that sit over time will not seal as well as an engine that has had a heat cycle put through it - run it, get it warm to let valves reseat and everything to operate as normal, then compression test it. i'd still do the compression test cold after the heat cycle and then also warm to compare results and determine condition.
